Structural Engineering Apprenticeships 2021

OUR ENGINEERING APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAMME IS STARTING UP AGAIN – A FANTASTIC OPPORTUNITY!

Want to build a career in designing the structure of buildings? We are looking for driven and talented individuals to join our award-winning Apprenticeship programme to become amazing Structural Engineers.

It all starts with providing technical support to our Engineers who design and manage construction projects, you can see the kind of projects we get involved in on our website and Instagram.

Apprentices will study Civil Engineering (BEng) undergraduate degree on a day release program with London Southbank University (LSBU). This role is progressive and will develop as the apprentice moves through the course. As the apprentice gains more skills, knowledge and experience through their work and study, they will begin learning how to engineer their own projects with support from senior staff at Blue.

Initially, an apprentice’s work will involve:

– Production of CAD drawings
– Document management
– Supporting the administration of projects
– Ensuring outputs meet the required standards
– Meeting agreed deadlines
– Working as a member of a team
– Contributing to providing solutions and problem solving
– Working primarily in an office environment

Future prospects

This degree apprenticeship offers a direct, fully funded pathway to professional qualification, combining undergraduate education with on-the-job training and contribution to real-life projects. Apprentice engineers will graduate from this scheme with both the theoretical knowledge and practical industry experience necessary to become brilliant engineers. We believe this provides a very attractive offer when compared to the traditional University first, then work experience model. Financially, not only do you not pay £30,000+ for Uni fees, you also earn whilst you learn.

The apprenticeship will run over a five-year period in which you will undertake a supervised programme of work-based training and university study. The Civil Engineering (BEng) undergraduate degree is fully accredited and backed by the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), and on successful completion, you will be eligible for Incorporated Engineer status.

After the apprenticeship, we expect you to continue to grow your career with us and there is no limitation to the level you can rise to.

Things to consider

Some travel around London may be required to attend site visits, events and socials.

We will not employ anyone with a regular commuting time of over one hour as this is not in keeping with a healthy work/life balance.

This is primarily an office-based role working at a desk using a computer for most of the day. There will also be site visits to your projects. Most site visits are pre-construction, but some live site visits will be required. Therefore, completion of a CSCS test is necessary if your application is successful.

Entry requirements

Apprenticeship candidates will have at least three A levels at Grades A*-C including Mathematics and a Physical Science (Either Physics or Chemistry) or will have completed a BTEC National Diploma in a relevant field for the degree.

Candidates will also have at least GSCE grade C (grade 4) in English or equivalent.

We will only consider applications from candidates who:

– have full eligibility to work in the UK
– do not have any prior degrees or other higher education qualifications
– are fluent English speakers with excellent written and verbal communication

Starting salary is £13,500 per annum. Contracted hours are 37.5 hours per week. The salary is designed to increase approximately 20% per year with good performance.
Please note, you will need to spend time working on your studies outside of the working week also as one would seeking any professional career.
